English is easy. A, E, I, O, U and sometimes Y.

German is a bit more difficult. A, Ä, E, I, O, Ö, U, Ü, and sometimes Y.

In German you also can say: Ae instead of Ä, Ue instead of Ü and Oe instead of Ö. But that should not be used...?

In German you also can say: Ae instead of ?, Ue instead of ? and Oe instead of ?. But that should not be used...?

Using the alternate spellings instead of the accented characters messes with the spelling of words. At least that's what my German teacher tells me. Use the alternative spelling only if you are unable to type them. But there are sites all over the internet with instructions on how to type other characters.

Yeah, often (internet, and so) there are written AE, OE and UE.
But in fact it should be the original letters, not those here. Those are used in some texts, for example, in the internet.
