South Africa's second language is English, interestingly enough. Afrikaans is the first.
Afrikaans (Combination of mostly Dutch and some German), English, Zulu, Xhosa, Swati, Ndebele, Southern Sotho, Northern Sotho, Tsonga, Tswana, Venda.
Those are *all* official languages.
Compare it to other countries:
England: English
Scotland, Ireland: Gaelic, English
Wales: Welsh, English
Germany: German, English
France: French, English
Netherlands: Dutch, German, English
Denmark: Danish, English
Bosnia and Herzegovina: Bosnian, Serbian, Croatian
Czech Republic, Poland: Czech, Polish, English
Sweden: Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish
Finland: Finnish, Swedish, Russian, English
United States: English, Spanish, French, Mandarin, German, Tagalog
Crazy... South Africa has got a wide variety in such a small space when compared to these other countries.
