-30°C in Russia? Brrrrr!

I just got word from BBC news that Russia was under record cold temperatures; as low as thirty degrees below zero centigrade.
It's not fair. Minnesota usually gets cold in January from the Siberian and Canadian air, but we've been lucky, being nearly 60 degrees warmer.
I don't get it.

You've got thirty degrees!?
Here we have always just a few minus degrees, in Austria...-12 is absolutely over-cold.

Österreich does get a bit cold. That's the interesting thing about Deutschland and Österreich, is that their weather is similar to Minnesota.
However, we've been very lucky, with temperatures ranging from 0°-5°C
That sixty is incorrect. I counted from a Celcius number to a Fahrenheit scale, so really, the difference is about 27°F (35°C difference).
Negative numbers screw you up...

They said (on my RPG) that it's just begining to get cold in Moscow
Cold already passed here in Idaho... (although we had some snow today with temperature of about 10 degrees F... which doesn't normally happen.
I've lived close to Moscow (couple hundred miles away kind of close
) and I don't really remember when it started to get cold, but I'm pretty darn sure it was in about December or so... not in the middle of Jan.

Hehe, russian savannah.
In Austria the bed weather mostly is too much snow. Snow lawines, broken houses, and so...but forest fire or so? Never. Always snow if the weather treats people bad or kills them.
Ok: I guess we have...wow! We have +3,5C° at the moment! Normally we have so...5-10 Celsius - ...
At a cold day! Austria has warm summers and wet winters, but to see 30C° or -20C° in Austria...you have to wait long

I must keep reminding myself of Centigrade/Celcius and Fahrenheit:
-40°C = -40°F
0°C = 32°F
20°C = 68°F
37°C = 98.6°F
100°C = 212°F
Celcius is so much easier to understand. Why won't Americans switch?
Anyway, the weather is most decent here now: We're used to cold weather, so temperatures like 2°C (which it is now) is a heat wave for us. XD

It is not too rare -30C in Russia. Usually each winter has couple of days of such cold. But now the cold covers great territory and very long-drawn-out. Worst of all permanent wind. The overcoat can easily protect from cold, but it's hard to protect face from ice-cold wind.

You know. There are -40C in winter and +40C in summer in the Novosibirsk. Most of the Russian territory located far away from the oceans, which can accumulate the heat. The land warm up quickly in spring and also quickly get cold in autumn. So the difference between winter and summer come form from 60-70C in European Russia to 80-90 in Siberia. It's call continental climate.

*sighing* You lucky guy...here you could just swim in the snow.
But! I live in upper Austria (so called or similiar...), away from the Alpes. No Alpes here. In other parts of Austria there are really the Alpes, much ore snow and...njoa, not really much colder than here...
But in Austria you can go skiing greatly!
And in the most winter sports Austria has favourites and some of the best sportlers in the world.
